A photo book for Grandma, from all of you.

She doesn't want another link. She wants something to hold, to leave open on the table, and to show the neighbours. You send one link to the family; she gets the book.

Start a bookHow it works

Why a book and not a frame

A digital frame shows her one photo at a time and she can't turn back to the one she liked. A book lets her go at her own speed, find the page again tomorrow, and hand it to a visitor.

Ours is built for older eyes. Each photo has a page to itself. The caption underneath is set in large type, up to 18 point against about 10 in a paperback. Each person's note gets its own page.

What to put in it

  • The ordinary things: school uniforms, the dog, the garden, Sunday lunch. Those are the ones she misses.
  • One photo of each grandchild on their own, so she can see how tall they've got.
  • Something she gave you, in use. The cake tin. The cardigan. The tomato plants.
  • A line under each photo saying who is in it and where. She'll read every one.

How the family adds to it

Nobody downloads anything. They open the link on their phone, type their name, pick photos, and write a line if they want to. It takes about five minutes.

If you add their email addresses, they each get their own link and a few reminders until they've added something. You can see who has and who hasn't.

Questions

Good to know.

How many photos does it need?

About 26 fills the shortest book, which is 28 pages. Five to ten from each person is usually plenty. It can go up to 200 pages.

Can I leave some photos out?

Yes. You see everything before it prints and can leave out any photo, change the order, and choose which one goes on the cover.

She lives in another country. Does that matter?

No. The book is printed in or near the country it's going to, and you can add photos from anywhere.
