- How it works
One person starts it. Everyone fills it. One book arrives.
The hard part of a family photo book was never the printing. It was getting photos out of eight people's phones. Paper Chain is built around that.
Step 1
Start a book
Say who it's for and give your email. That's the whole sign-up. The book gets a title, "For Nana", which you can change, and a studio where you'll watch it fill up. It costs nothing to start.
Step 2
Invite the family
Add each relative's name and email and choose the day photos are due. Before anything is sent, you see the exact email they'll get and the days the reminders will go. Each person gets their own link. There's also one shared link for the family chat.
Step 3
They add photos from their phones
No app and no account. They open the link, type their name, choose photos from their camera roll and write a line about each. They can add a note too. If a photo is too small to print well, they're told straight away.
Step 4
Reminders do the chasing
Anyone who hasn't added anything gets a reminder three days before the due date, the day before, and on the day. Reminders stop the moment they add a photo. You see who's done and can send one extra nudge yourself.
Step 5
You tidy it up
Drag photos into order and choose whose pages come first. Leave out the duplicates. Fix a caption. Pick the cover photo, one of ten themes, and soft or hard cover. Flip through the pages exactly as they'll print.
Step 6
We print it and post it
Add the address and you see the price and the arrival date before you pay. We print it and post it to their door. Most arrive within a week.
What arrives
A book, not a slideshow.
- 21 × 28 cm. About the size of a magazine.
- 28 to 200 pages. It grows with the photos.
- Softcover or hardcover. Matt finish either way.
- One photo to a page. Captions in large type.
- A closing page. “With love” and everyone's names.
Questions
The details.
Does my family need an app or an account?
No. They open a link on their phone, type their name, pick photos and add a few words. There's nothing to install and no password. It takes about five minutes.
How do I get people to actually add photos?
Add their email addresses and set a due date. Each person gets an invite with their own link, then a few reminders counting down to the date. The reminders stop as soon as they add something, and you can see who has and who hasn't.
What does it cost?
From NZ$58 in New Zealand, A$44 in Australia, £20 in the UK and US$30 in the US, delivered, with tax included. More photos add a few pages and a little to the price. It costs nothing to start, and you see the exact price before you pay.
How long does it take to arrive?
About a week in most countries: 4 to 6 days in New Zealand, 5 days in the UK, 6 to 7 days in the US. The order screen shows the estimate for your address before you pay.
Where do you deliver?
To 40 countries, including New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada and most of Europe. You see the price and arrival date for your address before you pay.
What does the book look like?
It's 21 by 28 centimetres, about the size of a magazine, in softcover or hardcover, with 28 to 200 pages. Each photo has a page to itself with a large caption. Each person's note is printed on a page of its own.
Can I change things before it prints?
Yes. You see the whole book as it fills up. You can reorder photos and people, leave any photo out, fix captions, pick the cover photo and choose from ten cover themes.
What if someone sends a small or blurry photo?
We flag any photo too small to print well, to the person adding it and to you, with the name of who to ask for the original. If it stays, it's printed smaller so it doesn't blur.
