For someone whose family can't visit as often as they'd like.

A book of recent family photos, with names in large print under every one, delivered to their room. Something to look through between visits, and to show the staff.

Start a bookHow it works

Why a book suits care homes

  • It needs no wifi, charger or password.
  • Staff and visitors can pick it up and talk about it.
  • Captions name everyone, which helps carers learn who the family is.
  • It's light, and softcover lies flat on a lap or a tray table.

Keep the captions simple

Say who, where and when. "Sophie, your granddaughter, at her graduation in December." Short and specific is easier to read and easier for someone else to read aloud.

A new one every few months

The family changes faster than the photos on the wall. Some families send a fresh book each season. The same relatives get the link again, and a due date keeps it moving.

Delivering to a home

Use the resident's name on the first line and the home's name and room number below. Add the home's phone number for the courier.

Questions

Good to know.

Is this suitable for someone with memory loss?

Many families make books like this for a relative with dementia: one clear photo to a page and a caption that names the people in it. We can't promise how any one person will respond, but the format is deliberately simple.

Can the home's staff add photos?

If you send them the link, yes. Photos from activities and outings often go in.

Do you work with care homes directly?

Not yet. For now each book is started by a family member.
