  3. 80th birthday

An 80th birthday book with everybody in it.

At eighty, most people would rather not have more things. This is the exception: every child, grandchild and old friend on a page of their own, in a book made to be read without glasses.

Start a bookHow it works

What makes it right for eighty

Large type, one photo to a page, matt paper. Nothing to plug in. It's the size of a magazine, so it sits on a lap.

And it's from everyone at once. A card from each grandchild gets lost. A page from each grandchild, bound together, gets kept.

Ask for these

  • A photo of each person with the birthday girl or boy, however old the photo.
  • One memory each, in a sentence or two. "You taught me to…" is a good start.
  • The house, the garden, the holiday place. Places matter as much as faces.
  • A wedding photo, or one from their own youth, for the opening pages.

Getting eighty years of people organised

Add each person's email and set a due date. Everyone gets their own link and a few reminders, and you can see at a glance who has added something. The last few always need a phone call.

Questions

Good to know.

Can we scan old photos?

A phone photo of the print works well. Lay it flat near a window, hold the phone straight above it, and avoid the flash.

Will small or blurry photos be a problem?

We flag any photo that's too small to print well before you order, and say who to ask for the original.

Hardcover for a big birthday?

It's the one occasion most people choose it. It costs a little more and takes a few days longer.
