Mother's Day

A Mother's Day book from all of you, not just the organised one.

One of you starts it. Everyone adds photos and a note. She gets a book with every child and grandchild in it, and nobody has to post flowers from three different cities.

Start a book How it works

When to start

Give the family a week to add photos and the printer a week to print and deliver. Two weeks before Mother's Day is comfortable. The date isn't the same everywhere: most countries keep the second Sunday of May, the UK and Ireland keep Mothering Sunday in March, and a few have their own.

Each country page shows the next Mother's Day there and the date to order by: New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, Ireland.

What to write

You don't need to be a writer. The notes that land are specific: the thing she always says, the meal she makes, the lift home at two in the morning she never mentioned again.

Start with "Dear Mum" and one thing you're grateful for this year.
Under each photo, say who's in it and when. She'll read the captions aloud to whoever is nearest.
Let the grandchildren write their own. Spelling mistakes are a feature.

If she's a grandmother too

Then it's really a book for both jobs. Ask each grandchild for one photo and one sentence. Put a photo of her with all of them on the cover.

Questions

Good to know.

Can we keep it a surprise?

Yes. She isn't told anything. The book is posted to her address, or to yours if you'd rather hand it over yourself.

What if one sibling doesn't add anything?

They get a few reminders by email. If they still haven't by your due date, you can order anyway; their section just isn't there.

Is there a message from all of us?

The last page says "With love" and lists everyone who added to the book.
