How long does a photo book take to arrive? 40 countries compared

"Will it get there in time?" is the first question about any printed gift. For a photo book the answer is usually about a week where it's printed in the same country, and one to three weeks where it has to cross a border.
The table below is the printer's own estimate for a softcover book to each country's main city, in days from the moment you order, printing included. We check it regularly; the date at the bottom says when.

What makes it quicker
- Softcover. Hardcover takes a few days longer to make.
- A country where we print locally. No border, no customs, domestic post.
- A complete address. Flat numbers, room numbers and a phone number for the courier.
What slows it down
- December. Printers and couriers are at their busiest. Order a week earlier than you think you need to.
- Remote addresses. Perth, Darwin, Hawaii and Alaska all take longer than the big cities in the same country.
- Customs. Where a book crosses a customs border, clearance can add days.
The exact date for your book
These are typical figures. When you review your own book, the order screen shows the delivery estimate for your address and the cover you've chosen, before you pay.
Count back from the day you need it, then take off two more days. Then set the family's due date a few days before that.
